PRESS RELEASE – Banks County High School is proud to recognize our 2026 STAR Student, Harper Steele, and her chosen STAR Teacher, Mrs. Elizabeth Ward.

What is a STAR Student in Georgia?
The Student Teacher Achievement Recognition (STAR) program is one of Georgia’s most prestigious academic honors. A STAR Student is selected based on:

• Academic excellence
• High performance on the SAT
• The student must have the highest SAT score in their graduating class (single test date) and be in the top 10% academically.

How is the STAR Teacher chosen?
The STAR Student selects their STAR Teacher as the educator who has made the greatest difference in their academic journey. This recognition honors teachers who inspire, motivate, and help students reach their highest potential.
