Stolen Vehicle Alert Leads to Pursuit, Arrest in Banks County

BANKS COUNTY, Ga. — A stolen vehicle alert led to a police pursuit and the arrest of a 40-year-old man in Banks County on Aug. 13, according to the Banks County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies received a Flock license plate reader alert indicating that a stolen vehicle was traveling through the county. Deputies located the vehicle and attempted to conduct a traffic stop, but authorities said the driver, identified as Kevin Payne, failed to stop and fled.

According to the sheriff’s office, Payne had also fled from another law enforcement agency earlier that day.

During the Banks County pursuit, deputies used a Precision Immobilization Technique, commonly known as a PIT maneuver, to bring the vehicle to a stop. Payne was then taken into custody without further incident.

Payne faces charges including reckless driving, felony fleeing to elude and possession of a stolen vehicle. He was also wanted on a probation warrant and faces multiple traffic violations.
