BANKS COUNTY, Ga. – Early in the morning on Friday, Jan. 5, a man was struck by a vehicle as he was attempting to direct traffic around a wrecked car.
Apparently, the victim was a passenger in the wrecked vehicle that ended up in a ditch.
As efforts were underway to retrieve the car from the ditch, the victim was directing traffic around the scene.
According to reports, around 7:00 a.m., Banks County Fire and Emergency Services responded to reports of a person hit. Upon arrival, units found an elderly male who had been hit directing traffic.
After arrival at the scene at 4464 Highway 198 in Homer near Highway 63, units found an elderly man who had received extreme blunt force trauma.
He was transported to Piedmont Athens Regional Hospital in critical condition, where he later succumbed to his injuries.
